How do reading challenges work in Beanstack for readers?
Tags: Challenges
Reading challenges in Beanstack are based on tracking reading and/or activities and earning badges that represent specific milestones based on what someone has read or done.
These challenges come in many styles, including ones with reading lists and even bingo! Upon reaching a milestone, e.g., 1 hour of reading, a reader will earn a badge that pops up on their screen. If the school or library may also motivate readers with rewards/certificates or ticket drawings.
In Beanstack, all challenges are built around earning badges for milestones. Readers earn badges for logging set amounts of reading, completing activities, or submitting reviews. Some badges include prizes, depending on how your site is set up. Site administrators choose the badge milestones, images, and any attached prizes, while challenge creators choose the specific milestones and badge images for each challenge.
Note for Schools
Even though media specialists plus, media specialists, and teachers have access to create challenges, only those with the role of media specialists plus are able to attach custom prizes to the badges.
Within school districts, your school likely has a coordinated yearlong, district-wide challenge every school year. This challenge should not be edited in any way. However, you are able to activate other challenge templates and create custom challenges to complement that district-wide challenge to inject bursts of energy at your school throughout the year!
