Schools: How to use Insights on your school site

Insights are a dynamic and easy-to-use data-gathering feature for teachers and media specialists. You can set your own display settings, timeframes, metrics, and more in your Insights Dashboard and Insights Leaderboard, making your most important data just a click away. The data refreshes every 24 hours, so it’s perfect for a snapshot of your school’s reading progress.
LeaderboardDashboard
Within your Insights Dashboard, you can customize an at-a-glance view of your overall school and student reading data for a number of different reading metrics, statistics, and demographics. Simply set your data timeframe, pick which readers and challenges you want to view, and click “Update Insights” to refresh your dashboard.
Note: If you switch between viewing data for all readers vs. viewing data for readers in specific challenges, some of your readers may be enrolled in multiple challenges, and thus they may be counted twice in certain metrics (like minutes read or challenge registrations) when you’re viewing data for readers in challenges. For more information about how each metric is filtered, hover over the “i” icon to read its details.
To tailor what sections appear on your dashboard, simply click the gear icon and choose what you want to view, like how many minutes students logged, the top books read, and a breakdown by grade level. When you update the selections, the dashboard saves your preferences for all future visits.
To get into the nitty-gritty datapoints, click a section heading or number for a list of the data. From there, simply click “Export CSV” to download that spreadsheet onto your local device.
How to filter your Insights Dashboard
After you’re logged in to the admin view of your site, navigate to Insights to see all the filters available. You can leave these filters set to their defaults or change them as you see fit.

Leaderboard
Within your Insights Leaderboard, you can see and customize a ranked view of your school’s reading progress by individual, class, or grade for a wide variety of reading metrics. The leaderboard makes running reading competitions, keeping tabs on your readers’ standings, and announcing contest progress a snap.
Set your timeframe, pick which readers and challenges you want to view, select your desired parameter, set your type of winner as reader, class, or grade, and then click “Update Leaderboard.”
When viewing top readers, you can click their name to view their reader profile and get their grade, challenge, and classroom info for easy recognition and prize delivery. When viewing top classes or grades, the rankings take into account the average per student, so that larger classes or grades and smaller classes or grades are on an even playing field.
To download your rankings, click the download icon next to the “Update Leaderboard” button to save a CSV file of the data onto your local device.
