How students add friends and view leaderboards on the mobile app

Students can access a friends and leaderboards feature on the mobile app when they tap the “Community” icon on the bottom-right of the screen.

Friends

On the “Friends” tab, students can add other students on their school’s Beanstack site as friends and view their reading log, challenge histories, and more. To learn more about how to use the “Friends” tab at your school, check out this article.

To invite friends:

  1. Tap “Invite Friends.”
  2. Type your friend’s name in the search bar and tap “Search.”
  3. After finding the correct person, tap the circle next to their name.
  4. Then, tap “Send Invite.”

You can invite as many friends as you like, but you won’t be able to view their friend card until they’ve accepted your invitation. Once accepted, you can tap their friend card to view their reading stats (e.g., last 4 badges earned and latest achievements).

Note: You can only invite other students at your school, not students/teachers at other schools.

When someone sends you a friend invitation, you’ll see it at the top of the “Friends” screen. Simply tap the notification to accept or decline invitations.

Leaderboards

On the “Leaderboards” tab, students can see how their reading ranks within their school. They can view leaderboards based on their friends, their grade, or their school as compared to other schools in their district (if applicable). To learn more about how to use the “Leaderboards” tab at your school, check out this article.

By Friends

The friends-based leaderboard shows where you rank among your school friends in terms of minutes and books, over the last week or month.

While viewing the leaderboard, students can click on their friends’ names or their own name to view their activity overview, challenges, and reading log in the same pop-up window as on the friends screen.

Note: Admins can adjust these settings by following the steps in this article.

By Grade

All students have access to a school-wide, grade-based leaderboard that shows the top grades and highlights a student’s own grade ranking. A preview of this leaderboard appears on the student home page, and students can access the full list via Leaderboards > Grade (web) or Community > Leaderboards > Grade (mobile).

Note: At this time, grade leaderboards cannot be hidden for readers.

By School

If your school is part of a district implementation in Beanstack, all students have access to a district-wide, school-based leaderboard that shows the top schools and highlights the student’s school ranking in the district. A preview of this leaderboard appears on the student home page, and students can access the full list on the Leaderboards > School page.

In addition to minutes and books read, students can also view the percentage of overall student participation for all schools in their district.

Note: At this time, school leaderboards cannot be hidden for readers.
