How to scan a book’s ISBN on the web

Tags: Logging, Web, Readers

If your computer has a camera, you can scan a title’s ISBN to easily add it to your Beanstack reading log!

Follow the steps below:

  1. Once logged in your reader account, click “Log Reading” near the top left of your screen.

    • Note: If your school/library has enabled the updated logging form for the web, the ISBN option is available as soon as you select “Log Reading!”

  2. Select the accurate reader(s) if there are multiple readers on the account.

  3. On the “Title” field, click the ISBN icon.

    • You will need to grant the Beanstack app permission to use your computer’s camera if you have not already.

  4. Then, hold your title’s ISBN barcode under the camera, lined up with the scan line. Keep in mind that you should scan the book’s ISBN, and not a library barcode.

  5. Once recognized, you may hear a “beep” sound, and the book cover, “Title,” and “Author” fields will automatically populate. You can edit title, and author, as well as add minutes or mark the book as complete.

  6. Click “Log Reading” to finish.
