A reader or account is in our system twice as a duplicate. What should I do?

If you notice that an account creator appears on your site multiple times (perhaps by running the “Potential Duplicate Account Creators” report), typically only one of the accounts has readers enrolled in current challenges.

For example, Mrs. Robinson has two readers who were enrolled in summer reading last year. This summer, she creates a new account rather than logging in with her existing account. The readers attached to her new account are enrolled in this year’s challenge, and last year’s readers are inactive.

To streamline and clean up any duplicate accounts, take the following steps:

  1. Open up both account creator pages in separate tabs or windows.
  2. View all readers to see which account has the majority of the reading history or the most current reading history.
  3. Confirm with the account creator that they know the details for the account with the most details or most recent details, and let them know that you will be deleting the other account.
  4. Manually transfer the reading log history from the less utilized or older account to the one with the most reading or recent activity. To do a manual transfer, instead of transferring individual titles or sessions, simply “batch log” what’s missing by entering the total reading amounts onto the other account.
  5. Delete the duplicate account and all the attached readers once you have transferred any needed information.

To further mitigate duplicate accounts, follow the steps in this article.
